"Jailhouse Rap" Screening EXCLUSIVE for ICLA

Next Thursday, 7pm at Pendleton, ICLAer Matt Duelka and hip hop doc director Peter Spirer are screening Spirer's latest project "Jailhouse Rap." Spirer also directed other hip hop documenteries such as Beef, Notorious B.I.G.: Bigger than Life, Thug Angel (The life of Tupac Shakur), and most recently Ghostride The Whip (The story of the Hyphy Movement). Spirer wants your input to shape the final product! Here's the synopsis:

The gritty elements of urban crime and violence have always had an influence on hip hop culture and rap music. More and more, the trappings of street life have landed popular rap artists behind bars… and not just for a music video shoot. What happens when a rapper who has everything suddenly has his freedom stripped away and is forced to deal with the harsh realities of prison? "Jailhouse Rap" takes an in-depth look at the role of prison in hip hop culture, and reveals the side of the story that is not being covered by the news and popular media. The true and personal stories of hip hop artists who are, have been, or are soon to be incarcerated, in their own words. Featuring intimate and compelling interviews with convicted rappers Beanie Sigel, Prodigy, Cassidy, Foxy Brown, Slick Rick and many more. These artists who were at the top of their game when they got locked up explain the details of the crimes that led to their arrests, and document their struggles to deal with the shocking brutality of incarcerated life. What happens to the music when the expensive bling and celebrity status get traded for an orange jumpsuit and an inmate identification number? "Jailhouse Rap" explores the bitter journey from the streets to the studio to the cell block.

Enemes Animation Inc.
Distribution and Marketing/Packaging
International Animation

During the last several years, animation has enjoyed a renaissance in Korea. Most Korean animation companies have concentrated their advancing technology and their tireless effort on work-for-hire projects, thereby servicing well established animation companies in the United States, Europe and the like. Korean companies have grown considerably from this arrangement, however, most of them have not enjoyed the larger financial gains that accompany ownership of original animated properties.

Enemes is different from its Korean competitors in that it aggressively pursues strategic partnerships, co-production opportunities and its own original projects (in addition to service work). With its branch offices in LA and Gwangju Korea, Enemes intends to create many lucrative opportunities with American television networks and film studios. Marketing, creative development, distribution and production coordination are facilitated in Enemes' Southern California office. The Seoul studio handles pre, main and post production. Indeed Enemes is well-equipped to explode with investment opportunities using its own intellectual properties.

Intern duties include setting meetings, researching projects, attending meetings and helping to promote Enemes original animated series, Z-Squad, though we are flexible in catering to a particular students needs.

Walk Now For Autism: April 26th

As many of you may already know, April 26th is the Los Angeles Walk Now for Autism. Walk Now for Autism, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program, is Autism Speaks' signature fundraising and awareness event, taking place in communities across the United States, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.

Our very own Stan Landes and his family are very involved in this organization and are looking for ICLA students to get involved too. We’re looking for people to help in any way that they can. You can raise money and participate in the walk. You can raise money and volunteer at the event. You can raise money and go and watch. Heck, you could raise money and stay at home…but that wouldn’t be fun.

We want you to get involved and make a difference in the autism community. If you’re interested in participating, and I hope you are: please click here and join “Team Teddy”.

There is no registration fee, but we ask that you try to raise some money. Once you join the team, there are easy, pre-made e-mails that you can send to your friends and family in order to raise money. The can donate quickly and easily online. There really isn’t a good reason not to raise some money. Let’s try to make an effort and make a difference in people’s lives!

Walk Now for Autism is a family-friendly event so bring the whole family along. There are activities for the children, resources for families, light refreshments and entertainment.
