Mentor Reception Smashing Success!

ICLA did it up big with the Mentor Reception last night! The James B. Pendleton Center was alive with conversations among over 100 alums and students, connecting and reconnecting, and sharing insight into what it takes to get a foot in the door in LA. You can see some photos from the evening here (not my best work!).

Thanks to all the alums who attended, to Steve Ginsberg for being the brainchild behind the Mentor Program, to Tony for his great catering team, and to Holly for all the administrative and organizational work!

ALL ABOARD!!!

Hey everyone hope your week is going well, just wanted to offer up another top 10 attraction that SoCal has to offer.  This Saturday I'm hosting a trip down to Long Beach to check out the Queen Mary.  For those of you who don't know about it, the ship is an actual ocean liner that sailed the North Atlantic from 1936 to 1967, many see is as the British version of the Titanic.  In fact in Dec. 1942 carrying over 16,000 American troops, it was almost capsized by a giant tidal wave. You'll get to walk onboard the ship and discover what it was really like to sail as a passenger on one of these historic ships.  What's even cooler is that the ship is said to be haunted, and has been the subject of numerous professional paranormal investigations as well as featured in an episode of the X-Files.

Join us on board February 23rd at 10am at the South Clubhouse (we have to leave early to beat the traffic, but you'll be back early enough to enjoy a saturday night at your leisure).

Tickets are $15 for general admission which gets you onboard, a self-guided tour and entrance into the Ghosts and Legends show.  It's $20 if you want that plus a visit to the Paranormal Research Center, the Ghost encounters tour and a spooky scavenger hunt.

HOWEVER, you can save big and only pay $5 for general admin or $10 for the Haunted Encounters Passport if you sign up by this Friday to attend the taping of "The Big Bang Theory" on Tuesday, March 4th which has a 6pm check in time at the WB Studios. Signups are at the Pendleton Center, don't miss out!!

Starring Lindsey Nadolski!

This coming Saturday, there is a show at the Unknown Theater (1110 Seward Street, right off of Santa Monica) that's going to have current ICLA student Lindsey Nadolski and ICLA alum Joel Rutkowski ('02) performing some music. Lindsey Nadolski will be opening at 10pm, playing some original tunes as well as covers, and Joel Rutkowski's band 'Elemenopy' (along with Nick Liberatore) will come on at 10:45pm, playing a variety of originals, covers, as well as various instruments. And don't be surprised to see both the present and past collaborate on a song or two as well. The Grayson Wray Project (a non-Ithacan group) will come on after at around midnight.

The show starts at 10pm, and it is $5 at the door. The Unknown Theater welcomes all ages and if you are over 21 years of age, there's free wine and beer (but donations to the bar are highly appreciated).

Directions are simple: Left out of the oakwoods, left on Cahuenga (that turns into highland), then left on Santa Monica. Go to Seward, make a left, and it's right on your right. There is a free parking lot if you continue down Seward to lexington where you can park.

Taste of LA: El Cholo

What is "Taste of LA" you ask? Well it is a one-a-month event for those who love to try new types of food and who want to explore those lesser known culinary gems of LA. We will meet at a different restaurant once a month and enjoy a great meal with even better company. You are responsible for the cost of your meal, but we'll keep the restaurants within a reasonable price range.

FEBRUARY'S LOCATION:

Date: Saturday February 16th
Time: 6-8PM
Who's Invited: Everyone!
Directions: Click Here

Everyone should plan on meeting at the restaurant around 6PM and we will all try to get seated next to one another. Bring your friends, bring your family if they are in town. This should be a fun night and the start of something good.

If you plan on attending, let Stuart know so that he might have a rough estimate of how many people to expect.

Happy New Year!

In honor of the Lunar New Year, which starts today, we're serving up Korean BBQ at the cookout this Saturday! We'll also have some Korean side dishes, some vegetarian options, and who knows what for dessert!

Following the feast, we're screening the Korean film "Oldboy," an award winner about one man's quest to find out why he was confined to a hotel room for 15 years. Check out the trailer:

Hike to Hollywood Sign & Observatory Overlook

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let you know of a great opportunity this weekend to explore two of Hollywood's biggest landmarks. This Sunday we'll pack up some lunches in the North Clubhouse around 3:00pm then drive over to the hike. We'll climb up to the sign and enjoy our meal overlooking the city at sunset. Then we'll drive over to the Observatory around 6pm (best known as the Empire State building of LA in terms of breathtaking views) to catch the city all lit up at night. We'll take in the planetarium show, see the planets up close through the giant telescope and for all you film buffs out there we'll also check out the filming spot for the knife fight scene in "Rebel Without a Cause." It's up to you if you want to do only one event or both. Signups are at the Pendleton Center. Hope to see you all there! If you haven't signed up, just give Brooke or Kelly a holler or email.
