AIDS LifeCycle Volunteers Wanted!

I'm rounding up ICLAers, friends and alums to work the noon-6pm shift on Saturday, June 6 at the 2009 California AIDS LifeCycle Closing Ceremonies...

ALC Closing Ceremonies is the culmination of the extraordinary journey of 3,000 plus people; cyclists and roadies, who will have traveled 545 miles in seven days from San Francisco to Los Angeles via bicycle, to make a difference in other people’s lives. These are some of the most courageous and astonishing people who are taking “The Ride” of a lifetime….Many of whom actually commit to this challenge year after year, determined that their efforts will continue to inspire courage, give hope, save lives and make a difference!!

All ALC closing ceremonies volunteers will receive these fabulous goodies:
  1. A fabulous ALC volunteer t-shirt
  2. Free Volunteer parking Passes
  3. Bagels and coffee in the a.m. AND yummy lunch in the p.m. (snacks too…what’s an event without food?!)
  4. The joy of helping welcome home the cyclists AND being part of the most successful HIV/AIDS fundraising event of its kind in the world!!!!

This event takes place at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, 11301 Wilshire Blvd. Please email me as soon as you can (jbflores.icla@gmail.com), by Friday noon if at all possible, to let me know you're interested. We had a great time last year at the Closing Ceremonies, so I hope you'll sign on for this year's fun! (Yes, it's hard work, but it's SO WORTH IT!)

Concert Promo Street Team

Organization: Shriners Hospital in Los Angeles
Date: Saturday, February 28th
Details: 15-20 volunteers to go to Santa Barbara to distribute handouts at local stores for a special concert benefiting the hospital. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. In addition, we will cover mileage and you will get credit for over 10 volunteer hours. Shriners Hospital is a non-profit hospital that treats child with very specialized conditions at no charge to them. Funding for the hospital comes from the Shriners, a fraternal organization, and donors. This summer, we are hosting a concert series and need to get the word out to get people to buy tickets. That is where the volunteers come in. We need able bodies that can represent the hospital and be effective. Joyeta Basu is coordinating this volunteer project for the Shriners Hospital. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact her at joyetabasu@gmail.com.

Getting to the Staples Center

Below is a map of how I typically get to the Staples Center / Nokia Live Theater/Grammy Museum area. Sometimes you'll find free parking on Flower Street, especially south of Pico. Otherwise, there are a ton of surface lots. The prices fluctuate between $7 and $20, and they change the signs to higher prices as gametime approaches! For the 1pm Kings game, I recommend leaving Oakwood at noon.
